Never Stop Asking
Saul and Marta met fifty years ago today. She refused to marry him because she was afraid of getting hurt. Friendship was all she’d offer. Every year, on her birthday, he’d propose. Every year, she’d refuse. This year, Saul decided to trick her. After dinner, he pretended to choke on her birthday cake.
When Saul fell to the floor, and Marta thought he’d died, she screamed, “I should’ve married you when I had the chance. If only I still could.”
Saul opened his eyes and offered her a ring. “I guess you can’t say no now, huh?”
