Braxton’s Fall Festival: Day 26 – All About Wharton County & Braxton College

Braxton’s Fall Festival – What’s Happening Today?

Welcome to Braxton’s Fall Festival. Today we’re celebrating the launch of Haunted House Ghost with a thirty-one (31) day virtual festival, where we share the scoop on all the exciting book promotions coming up this month. Who’s ready for…

Today, I’m sharing the town map of the Braxton Campus Mysteries. In each book, some of the maps will change so that readers see all the main settings that will be included. I’m working on a second map for each book which will be a detailed drawing of the location where the murder victims were killed. I will begin sharing those in book 6 and go back to previous books to include them for anyone who buys in the future. I’ll also share them on my blog and author website so readers who missed out in the first few books have a place to catch up.

Right now, we see the 4 villages or towns in Wharton County, as well as the surrounding mountains, forest, river, lake, and various points of interest. In the next two, I have detailed maps of South and North Campus that will show all the major college buildings, hot spots, and curious places where crime might happen. I can’t wait to see if it’s what everyone pictured, or if I’m way off base in my descriptions matching the drawings. I had help from someone very important to me, as I could never draw well myself. I’m looking forward to sharing them in the fall.

Welcome to Wharton County

  • Wharton County, in north-central Pennsylvania, is the primary setting. It is 90 miles south of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport and surrounded in entirety by the Wharton Mountains and Saddlebrooke National Forest. One highway cuts through it from North to South to access the secluded county. The four towns include:
    • Braxton: Largest of the 4 and where most of the action takes place. Braxton College is the focus point, and over the new few books, the administration is adding a graduate program and converting the college into a university.
    • Woodland: Fans of my novels will recall this town was one of the main settings for my stand-alone novel, Father Figure. Nana D even references someone she knows from the book. Do any savvy fans remember the connection?
    • Millner Place: A smaller part of the county, not mentioned a lot yet. Wellington Park and Second Chance Reflections are two locations we’ve visited before. It will be a rivalry between colleges in the future.
    • Lakeview: Perhaps the prettiest of all the towns, it will be featured in the future too. For now, we often know this as the place Kellan and April travel through when coming or going to the Buffalo Airport.
  • Favorite hot spots include:
    • Wharton County Local News (WCLN)
    • Whispering Pines Funeral Home
    • Nutberry Pharmacy
    • Finnigan’s Law Offices

    • Betscha Mines
    • Roarke and Daughters Inn

Braxton College / University

  • One of the oldest colleges, named after Braxton Stanton, founded in 1770, contains deep burgundy and navy-blue colors
  • North and South campus separated by the town’s 1-mile walk along Millionaire’s Mile
  • To convert to university, adding (1) several MBA options, (2) an extensive Ph.D. program within the medical fields.
